William Reginald Hipwell
William Reginald Hipwell or Reg Hipwell was a left wing journalist and parliamentary candidate.
He was editor of ''Reveille'', a " barrack room newspaper for the fighting forces",〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATID=716113&CATLN=6&accessmethod=5 )〕 and stood as an Independent Progressive in a number of Parliamentary by-elections in the Second World War when the major parties honoured a war time electoral truce. He fought a number of by-elections, the Hampstead by-election, 1941, Scarborough & Whitby by-election, 1941, Salisbury by-election, 1942 and the The Hartlepools by-election, 1943. His campaigns focused on complaints about the conditions of Services personnel. He was also the agent for the successful independent candidate, William Brown in the Rugby by-election, 1942.
